To be a Grand Canyon National Park Junior Ranger is a very special privilege and honor. You receive a certificate, get sworn in as a Junior Ranger, and get to wear a badge just like Rangers wear. It is a privilege because not everyone who visits Grand Canyon National Park becomes a Junior Ranger.

There are 3 ways for you to complete the requirements and be sworn in as a Grand Canyon National Park Junior Ranger:

1. Ravens, Coyotes, and Scorpions - If you are 4 - 14: pick up the Junior Ranger magazine at Canyon View Information Plaza and complete the requirements listed in the magazine for your age group. Requirements include completing word puzzles, answering questions about the park, and attending a ranger led program. (Ravens for ages 4 - 7; Coyotes for ages 8 - 10; and Scorpions for ages 11 - 14.)

2. Dynamic Earth Junior Ranger - Dynamic Earth is only offered during the summer months between 27 May and 03 Sep. If you are 9 - 14: attend the Dynamic Earth Program offered Sun, Tue, and Thu at 10:00 am. Join a Ranger and hike along the rim of the Grand Canyon. Through hands on activities discover how the forces of nature create rock, uplift, and erosion to form the Grand Canyon.

3. The Discovery Pack - The Junior Ranger Discovery Pack is only offered during the summer months between 27 May and 03 Sep. This program is for aspiring naturalists between the ages of 9 - 14. Explore with your family the wonders of Grand Canyon ecology. After attending a one hour ranger led program, you can check out a "Discovery Pack" for the day. It is complete with binoculars, hand lens, field guides, and other important tools of a real Park Ranger. This program is offered Mon, Wed, and Fri at 9:00 am and is limited to 30 families.
